We just love it when smart people use their skills to create free tools that make people’s lives easier. No, we’re not talking about the Pagemodo developers today (though we still love you all); the tool we’re referring to here was created by Paavo Schmid of Germany, and it can be used to check your Facebook Cover Photo for compliance.
You may recall that we recently posted about Facebook loosening up the restrictions on Cover Photo content. The new guidelines go like this:
All covers are public. This means that anyone who visits your Page will be able to see your cover. Covers can’t be deceptive, misleading, or infringe on anyone else’s copyright. You may not encourage people to upload your cover to their personal timelines. Covers may not include images with more than 20% text.
Easy, right? Depends on how good you are at estimating. If you have created a great new cover photo that takes advantage of the looser guidelines and don’t want to eyeball it, try Paavo’s Cover Compliance Tool!
Step 1: Enter the Facebook username of your page (Facebook.com/Pagemodo)
Step 2: Click the boxes on the grid over your image that contain text
Step 3: Look at the counter just above your Cover Photo to see if it’s 20% or less
Wondering what kind of text you could be adding to your Cover Photo now? Some good options include your unique selling proposition (why you’re special), reasons to like your page, your general location is that’s relevant to your business, a tagline if you have one, or maybe a short quote from a great testimonial you’ve received. Get started now with Pagemodo Cover Photo Designer (also free!).
Whatever you add, bear in mind that Facebook pages are a place for people to connect with your business on a more personal level. So try to keep the text on your Cover Photo to a minimum, and make sure it says something about you, rather than looking like a billboard.
(Thanks to SocialMediaExaminer for pointing this handy tool out!)
