It’s a cloudy Thursday here afternoon in Maryland – what better time for a walk down memory lane? The infographic below, courtesy of, details the history of several of our most beloved social networking channels, from the first email (1971) to the year when Facebook first surpassed MySpace as the leading social networking site (2008).

There are some true gems of nostalgia here. Like the founding of GeoCities, the advent of AOL Instant Messenger, and the rise and fall of Friendster.


PS – is anyone else a little thrown to see that MySpace still has more users than Twitter?
