Did you know that there is a sizable gathering of social media leaders taking place in  cities all over the globe as we speak? Well, there is, and it’s called Social Media Week. This year it takes place from February 17-21 in eight major cities – New York City being North America’s destination.

If you’re curious what all those experts and attendees are up to right now, the video below can provide some insight. The platform/event’s Founder and Executive Director Toby Daniels is featured in the video, where he gives a great summary of what Social Media Week is all about, saying:

“…the mission is to capture, curate, and share the best ideas, best practices, and emerging ideas in regards to how social media and technology is impacting society, business, and culture.”

But what about those of us who did not score a ticket to this year’s event? Does Social Media Week still have something to offer us? Absolutely. When this many social media people get together in one place, a lot of great links, content, and insights will come out. Here are 5 ways you can take advantage of Social Media Week without attending this year’s event:

1. Follow Social Media Week on Twitter: @socialmediaweek
2. Follow the conversation on Twitter: #SMW2014 and #SMWNYC
3. Watch video clips from the NYC event:
4. Find new experts to follow by looking through the NYC event roster
5. Check out the Social Media Week blog for interesting stories
